My brother just bought the Canon EOS Rebel XS (digital)…And I am looking to find one. And I can’t seem to find one on Craigslist. However… I have found tons of Canon EOS Rebel XT (digital). Does anybody know what the difference is? I know I could look it up online… But I want to know from an actual person. So if you know what the difference is or just anything about either of the camera’s please get back to me.

Digital Rebel (300D) –> Digital Rebel XT (350D) –> Digital Rebel XTi (400D) –> Digital Rebel XSi (450D)
After the XSi was released, a new, lower-end/priced line was introduced:
Digital Rebel XS (1000D)
Differences of the XS include:
two more megapixels
larger screen
live view
longer burst length

The XT is just older. It has no live view, the ISO performance is not as good. It might have a Digic II processor instead of Digic III which also means slower writing speed. Instead of looking for a used XS or XT, look for a used XTi. Its a better camera than both. Actually if you happen to live in Vermont I am selling one and some lenses. Its in great shape. The price says $900 but I think that $850 is probably a better range.

The Canon Rebel XT is a Digital SLR model from 2-3 years ago. It features an 8 MegaPixel sensor. About a year and half ago, the Canon Rebel XTi came out, which has a 10MP sensor. Relatively newly released is the Canon Rebel XS. It also features a 10MP sensor.
From the looks of things there are only a few key differences:
*The XS is 10MP as opposed to 8MP of the Rebel XT
*The XS uses the DIGIC III Image Processor, the XT uses the DIGIC II
*The XS uses SD/SDHC memory cards, the XT is CompactFlash
*The XS has a self clean system (keep dust off mirror), the XT does not.
*The XS is almost a full inch smaller in size.
*The XS features live-view (you can see image on back LCD before you take it) the XT does not (viewfinder only, LCD is used for image review after you take it.
The XT is a discontinued model.
The reason you aren’t seeing any XS Canons on the list is that it’s new. There are tons of XT models because people are dumping them. That body is probably around 5 years old, it’s a dino. The XTi came after and probably sold a zillion of em for over 2 years and then the XS followed.
If you need something really cheap the XT or XTi is fine. But my rule of thumb on bodies is get the latest generation you can afford. Better to spend the money and get say an XSi or 40d if you can afford it.
The latest generation will have better features and cleaner pictures at high ISO. Also, you’ll notice that when you step up to a dSLR, especially an entry level one, regardless of brand, you’ll get upgradeitis, you end up losing money flipping the model you just got to get the one you are lusting after just 3-6 months later.
